Here are the final images from my last trip to Japan (that I recently added to my website).  I’ve decided that this “project” is not complete yet.  I’m not sure if I’ll ever feel as though it is, but I’ve decided to make another trip this winter in an attempt to add another dimension to the images…that additional dimension mostly being seasonal, but the hope is that cold, snow, and everything that comes with that will accentuate the feeling of solitude I have tried to achieve there (and pretty much everywhere).  For the first time ever, I am not looking forward to returning to Japan.  The last trip was kind of rough.  There were some fun days, and I’m happy with the pictures above, but it was physically taxing.  It was also the opposite of effortless picture-taking.

I can’t just leave it at that though.  I really do want to publish a book of this work.  A very quiet and personal book.  I’d be bummed to look back and know that I didn’t try as hard as I could.  Although I’m not real excited about going to the freezing cold middle of nowhere Japan (probably by myself), I am real excited about the idea of potentially completing a book project.  So, hopefully that will happen if I make it happen.

  • I really like 1, 7 and 11. Especially 1, very interesting and has a bit of a conceptual feel to it. Very nice work! Look forward to seeing the next batch of Japan images!

those enoshima photos are so beautiful. ill brave the japanese winter to help you keep your readyloads organized. i do not, however, have any money, so let me first figure out how to get to japan by bicycle.

  • I especially like 1,3,5 and 7. I feel that in these pictures you really have conveyed the feeling of solitude you write about. Good for you that you have a clear idea of what you are after. Good luck with your project!

  • Nice. Really like ‘Belongings’.
Did you shoot this on MF?
