I got word last night that a good friend of ours had to put their beloved dog to sleep. Claude was almost 14 years old (you wouldn’t know it from the above photo), and an all around sweetheart. It’s always such a horrible decision to have to make – whether or not to end your pet’s life – but Claude had a great, long life…full of love and good times. I wanted to post a little tribute to Claude, but also just write, in general, about how much animals (dogs especially) have touched my life and how meaningful the animal/human relationship can be.
I grew up with dogs – two dogs to be exact, Daisy and Zoe, who both lived into double digits – that affected and changed my life for the better in so many ways. Now I have my own dog, The Baroness (duh), and although it is an added responsibility and sometimes a pain in the ass, everyday she makes me smile, laugh, and realize that life is good. Dogs are the best buddies. They love you. You love them. That’s pretty much the whole relationship. Sure, people are cool and all, but dogs are special. I write this as I share an office chair with a 35 pound snoring English Bulldog.
Claude, you are loved and we will all miss you.
